WrapN3 at Graham, Texas

This weekend I went to my first barrel race produced by WrapN3. They hold barrel races in south Texas allot. It was run great and had awesome prizes and payout! They are all super nice too! This weekend's barrel race had an added $$$$ futurity for both 4 and 5 year olds. An open barrel race with added $$ and average saddles and other prizes given to each D. A derby sidepot and rider incentives. There were less entries then I expected. This was a great barrel race...guess people where up at the Shoot Out or just could not make it.

While Im not all together happy with my horses or my performance this past weekend. It did end of paying for its self. Friday night, BLW's mother and I hauled Beau, Versace, Lucky and Braska over for a warm up jackpot. Martha Wright won it with a 15.7....Beau hit a rare barrel but had already run off going to the first(later I found that Beau had over reached going around the 2nd, and this is why he over reached)....Versace did not run but clocked a second off with a 16.6. Versace not running told me that the times would be faster the next day because he is always a second off. I rode Versace and Beau and Braska when I got home.

Saturday, I went early to watch the futurity; hauling Versace, Beau, Braska and Holli (a customer's horse.) Jolene Stewart won the first round with a 15.1; the fastest time run all weekend by far. Versace ran really good during the first round clocking a 16.2??; just barely out of the money in the 3D. I really want him to be a consistent 2D horse before I put him up for sale. Well really a 1D horse but I will settle for 2D. He is so honest and really does not make mistakes, hopefully he will start firing really hard and I will be able to help him. Beau was a complete psycho. Usually I do not get on him till like 2 runners before me. As usual I did this but he was wired to the something....He was nuts. He is always hyper but not like this. I kinda figured he was going to run off and he did. Dont get me wrong when Beau cracks out a run he is badass but its all up to him. Or I thought til now. At the WrapN3s you can buy back in and run again; I did. On his second run he ran a 16.5 but still ran off on the first. I rode him around and tuned on him the entire time between his runs and after the second. Getting him to give his face and not brace and be SOFT. He was half way chilled out after our come back to earth session.

Sunday...I just took Beau and Versace. It was so, so hot!! I got on Beau to get him soft and sit on during the futurity. Beau was so quiet!!!!!! He was soft and stood still. It was amazing. I hope this is something that is here for good. Versace worked so good and he was really listening to me and is trying to fire but not really sure and well Im rambling because I pulled the barrel over leaving the 2nd. He clocked another 16.2 and would have won the 3D average saddle. Beau worked so nice. I had been riding him around with the reins I ride Lucky in and they are long because Lucky is sure that the right place for his head is by his feet. I run with really short reins. Needless to say I was not confusing him. He clocked bad with a 17.0. His times average together for a perfect 4D time and so he won the 4D. While I am super excited to win a saddle, I have to admit that I would prefer to win in the 1D, 2D or 3D.

No $$$ won but guess a saddle will cover my fees...So does anyone want to buy it?

This brings me to my point. You have to go and go allot to get a horse solid. You need to know them inside and out. If your horse is running in different Ds then they just need to go more. If they run the same and then hit in a lower D, they are sore. Like Beau he ran in the 1D, 2D, 4D and 5D all with the basically the same horses and only 2 different places in the same week. Versace runs a second off anywhere all the time, if he runs in the 5D then I know he is sore.
